Spanish bellyboat Black Bass

Exclusive black bass fishing

The black bass is a very strong and explosive fighter that originally did not live in Spanish waters, but so do the pikeperch and catfish. However, the living conditions for these fish are so good here that they can reproduce well and grow into interesting large specimens. Furthermore, largemouth black bass are a real thrill and give a fantastic drill when you hook them, which makes many an angler's heart beat faster. Black bass up to 40 cm are regularly caught here and the 50+ cm specimens are also welcome guests. And when you can fish from a bellyboat which allows you to fish at spots where others cannot get to, this guarantees a wonderful and exclusive fishing trip.

And this is all at organised by Peter de Kock! For those who don't know him. Peter used to own an angling shop in Belgium for many years. Peter is a true enthusiast and a very knowledgeable angler. Whatever type of fishing you want practice, he has the right knowledge, experience and also the materials for it. Peter has a great passion for fishing, which he therefore likes to convey in this exclusively designed programme.

This trip is completely arranged by Peter. You only need to fly to Valencia or Allicante and then the rest will follow automatically. You will be picked up from the airport, and accommodation, meals, permits and fishing equipment, including belly boats, are all included. And, of course, you will also be brought back to the airport. And all that for only € 2,095.- per person. Additional costs are your local drinks and a tip if you like.

The programme:
  • You will arrive at the airport in the morning (if possible) and will also be picked up there.
  • The transfer to the accommodation takes a maximum of 1 hour.
  • Upon arrival, there will be lunch and after that you can fish from the banks of the local lake for the first session. This will take place in the form of a workshop where the technical approach to the fishing and the different baits will be covered.
  • The other 5 fishing days will be fished from the belly boat. All the necessary angling equipment to spend a week here is provided.
  • The fishing licence of the province of Valencia is included in the price as well as transfers to and from the airport.

The maximum group size is 4 people which means you get full attention and are not overcrowded on the fishing grounds. This benefits the quality of the trip, fishing and experience.

Black bass is a species that can be caught in different ways. Weather type or time of day can indeed influence their behaviour. Sun, wind, or cloud cover determine whether they bait on the surface or in deeper water. The best way to fish them is at the surface or shallow water. This is a sight fishing that is sensational on a take. With poppers, frogs or probeller baits or slow-sinking worms or senkos. Totally awesome!

On the other hand, they are very catchable on lobster imitations or a creature baits on a jighead. A multitude of lures are used between surface and bottom. For this we mostly use chatter, spinner and crank baits and other hard baits.

All kinds of finesse techniques can sometimes be the answer to more difficult conditions. Or hard-to-catch ‘mostly big’ fish. The wacky, neko and nedrig sometimes make the difference for the bigger species that are not so easily fooled.

For fly fishermen, the choice of artificial flies comes down to pretty much the same thing as the choice of lures. Poppers, streamers, leeches, frogs and worm imitations fished on a floating, sinking tip or sinking line. in this regard, it is advisable for fly fishermen to plan for the second half of spring or the first part of autumn so as not to have to fish too deep.

In the spring period, Peter operates from a different location than in the autumn period. This is because it is very important to have a minimum of 20 degrees Celcius water temperature. Therefore, in spring the fishing takes place further south in the province of Valencia. The lakes fished then include Bellus, Escalona, Cofrentes and Loriguilla. In autumn, northern lakes such as Benageber,Contreras, Buseo, Loriguilla and Escalona are fished.

This trip is operated from two different regions. In spring you will fly to Allicante and in autumn to Valencia.

In both locations, spacious homes with 2-3 bathrooms and 3-5 bedrooms are available. And because the groups are no larger than four participants, this is a perfect set-up. They are double bedrooms with two single beds each and there is also a bathroom for every three people.

In short, you will have everything you will need for a perfect fishinmg trip. Of course, there is a general living room where fishing stories can be exchanged in the evening, and if the weather is nice, this can of course be done outside on the terrace.

In addition, good and sufficient food and drinks are the norm. A hearty breakfast with something for everyone; from breakfast cereals to bacon and eggs. A lunch pack for the day, and possibly a lunch break with picnic during the afternoon on the waterfront. And while you enjoy a shower or an invigorating dip in the pool after fishing, dinner will be prepared.

Beer, wine and soft drinks are always cold in the fridge and available locally at extra cost.

The bellyboats

Peter chose the classic among bellyboats: the outcast fatcat. As far as he is concerned, the best option for this kind of fishing. Super light at only 6.5 kilos and enormously stable. It rests high in the water and offers plenty of storage space. In addition, it inflates quickly and takes up little space for transportation.

The fishing places generally do not allow to trailer a boat or launch a heavy bellyboat. In addition, several reservoirs in Spain prohibit motorised boats from entering the water.

And what you get in return are rarely fished waters and spots, absolute silence and complete immersion in the environment. This is how fishing was once conceived and this is how it still is here. And Peter is just past 60 himself so you can assume that the physical challenge is not really great. This bellyboat fishing is therefore open to all.

Bring your own wading suit, especially for the first weeks of May and the last weeks of October. The rest of the year, a swimsuit and wading shoes are more than enough.

Fishing tackle

Fishing rods

Fly-fishing rods - about 4 are available, brand G-Loomis, models asquith, NRX+, GLX, each 9 feet and line classes between aftma 5 and 7. Matching fly-fishing reels with both floating lines, sinker lines and sinkers and a wide range of flies. The flies are mainly poppers, streamers and imitation worms.

Spin and casting rods. About 20 spin and casting rods are available. The length of the rods varies between 1m80 and 2m40 depending on bank or bellyboat fishing and your personal preference for long or short rods.

We normally use the classic spinning rod to fish lighter setups, worms and senkos. If we go for the heavier approach we use crankbaits, poppers, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits or hardbaits for a casting version. The rods are from the brands G-Loomis, ST croix or high quality homebuilt rods. The reels and reels we use are top models in the following brands; Lews, Thirteen fishing, Daiwa and Shimano. The level of the Shimano reels is model Vanford and up. The size varies from model 1000 to 3000.

The schedule

First day, in the morning you will be picked up from the airport and taken to the accommodation location. Then it's also straightaway time to change your clothes and enjoy a tasty lunch, directly followed by your first introduction to fishing from the shore. And for the next five days, you will fish various reservoirs by bellyboat. On the last day, depending on the flight schedule, there may be another half-day of fishing from the shore. And then you will be taken back to the airport for the journey home.

Guests wanting to fish with their own equipment can certainly do so. But you can be fully confident that all the necessary angling equipment is available on the spot to have a successful fishing week.

The groups consist of a maximum of just 4 people. This way, we can guarantee that there is enough time to give everyone individual attention and support and to answer all questions.

This includes:

- return transfer Valencia airport
