Savage Gear Halibut festival sep 25

Group trip with max 27 participants in a top location!

We have been organising our annual halibut festival for more than 10 years. And in all those years we have used different locations such as Torsvag and Skjervoy. And for this edition we are back at the location where we once started, namely Havoysund. The location where it all started!

This is an absolute top location in our portfolio of North Norwegian locations. Havøysund is located north east of Soroya at 71º North latitude and close to the North Cape. The name Havoysund has proven itself over the years as one of the top spots to catch nice numbers and sizes of halibut. But apart from halibut, serious sizes of cod,  redfish, coalfish, plaice and tusk are also caught here. This is definitely a place where you can improve your PB for all these species. We have been fishing here ourselves for many years and know the location and associated fishing spots really well.

In less favourable weather, this location offers the possibility of sheltered fishing which means that chances of fishing days being lost is not that high. Apart from the location itself, the nature here is also very impressive. Rock formations, flora and fauna are untouched and overwhelming here. In recent years, this location has developed into a top-notch spot where halibut are caught regularly and in a targeted manner. This is an absolute top spot and so early booking is recommended.

The trip takes place from Thursday 4 tm 11 September 2025 and consists of:

  • Central online meeting in the Netherlands June 2025
  • Transfers from airport to location
  • English-speaking tourleader and guide on site and on the fishing boat
  • Four participants per accommodation (2 per double room)
  • Four participants maximum per 23.5-foot fishing boat with 150 HP (arrangement by organisation)
  • Towel, bed linen and final cleaning included
  • Closing dinner and prize-giving ceremony together
  • Nice prizes can be won from Savage Gear
  • Personal photo book after the trip for every participant

Minimum 5 complete boats / homes maximum 7 with maximum 27 participants. The cost of this trip is 1295,- per person excluding flights.

This is what our previous halibut festival in 2024 in Havoysund looked like.

The fishing locally is top-notch and several halibut of 180 centimetres and more are caught in Havoysund every year. Not only is the number of hotspots particularly high, but the diversity of spots is also good.  There is a channel near the harbour where it is 5 to 8 metres deep and where you can target large plaice and smaller halibut. This is done on sight since the water here is so clear.

And how about the various spots around the islands Masoya, Hjelmsoya, Ingoya and Rolfsoya. Piece by piece, there are dozens of top spots here where you can go and where we have welcomed many fish on board over the past 15 years.

This was our trip in Skjervoy in 2023

There are 7 houses/apartments available at this location, all of which can accommodate up to 6 people and have 3 bedrooms with single beds. The houses are a short distance from the boats and are between 60 and 95 m2. There is a living room with TV, Wifi, sofa, dining table with chairs and a fully equipped kitchen. And of course there is a separate shower/toilet combo. The houses are fully equipped where bed linen, towels, water, electricity and final cleaning are included.

There is also a covered filleting room, large general freezer, a heated drying room to hang up fishing clothes so that they are dry again the next day. In short, everything is provided!

Within walking distance of the houses you will find the COOP supermarket with an extensive range where you are going to find all the necessities you need due to the extensive assortment. Or you can walk in the other direction to the pub cum restaurant where you can go for a nice beer or a meal. But beware. It's not going to be cheap. But it can get very cosy there.

There are 7 Arronet boats of 7.3 metres (23.5 feet) with 135 and 150 HP 4-stroke engines. The boats are equipped with colour fishfinder, gps, radar and vhf radio. The Gps / fishfinder is a whopping 12 inches and Garmin 6012 type. The boats also have 14 horizontal rod holders and around the boat, there are 6 angled rod holders for bait fishing with an extra rod if required. A gaf and brush are also standard on board. So all in all, these are perfect fishing boats that leave nothing to be desired. They have good sailing characteristics and are extremely safe.

Refuelling the fishing boats can be done at the local port where you can use your credit card to fill up the boat directly as the refuelling column is right by the water. On site, you get a detailed explanation of the fishing boat, safety, use, sailing, refuelling and all other relevant issues.

The guide is very experienced and has been fishing here for more than 10 years, so he knows every rock and spot to make your fishing trip a success.

In September, the water has warmed up from the summer period and the halibut (including the big ones) come close to shore. This is therefore the better period to target halibut. It can be cold in Havoysund and when we in the Netherlands still have the last 20+ degrees on the counter in September, it can easily freeze there. So bring warm clothes and make sure you put them on in several layers. If you don't have fishing overalls, you can also rent them there.

We will fly from Amsterdam to Alta on Friday and from there we will take a transfer to the location. This last part of the trip takes about 3 hours and goes over beautiful roads and scenery. Friday is the fixed changeover day and you will stay for a week and fish 6 full days on your own boat.
